Banana Coconut Flapjacks

This wheat free banana coconut flapjack recipe is from the new EAT Smart Cook Book.

They’re delish, even if I do say so myself 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 300g porridge oats
  • 100g Organic Unsalted Butter
  • 3 teaspoons coconut oil
  • Half jar organic honey
  • 2 bananas, mashed
  • 50g almonds
  • 50g fresh coconut flesh
  • 25g mixed seed mix
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Grated ginger
  • 2 organic freerange eggs

Directions:

  • Pre-heat oven to 180 c/gas mark 4
  • Melt butter, honey and coconut oil in a large saucepan on a low heat to prevent burning.
  • Meanwhile place almonds and coconut flesh into a blender and blend until you have small chunks. Be careful not to over blend as you’ll end up with a slodgy mess.
  • Once the butter, coconut oil and honey is melted stir in the coconut and almond mix as well as the cinnamon, mixed seeds, mashed banana and grated ginger.
  • Add in the oats, stirring to coat with the liquid.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the two eggs.
  • You may need to add more oats if the mixture is too ‘wet’.
  • Spread mixture evenly into a glass baking dish.
  • Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the flapjacks are starting to brown around the edges and the middle feels firm to the touch. You can use a knife to check the centre is cooked through.
  • Once cooked, cut them into 2 – 3 inch squares while still warm as this makes it easier.
  • Allow to cool before turning out.

Six Weeks To Six Pack Abs: Day 2

Welcome to day two of my “Six Weeks To Six Pack Abs” journey.

 

Yesterday was a brilliant start to my Six Weeks To Six Pack Abs journey, although towards the end of yesterday my detox headache started to kick in. Normally for me this doesn’t happen until day two so it was a nice little surprise.

 

It wasn’t like I wasn’t expecting this to happen as it’s a part of the “Healing Crisis” the body goes through as it flushes out the stored toxins from the fat cells to be taken to the liver and kidneys for elimination.

 

The severity of the headache is largely dependant on how toxic your body is before you start the EAT Smart Diet Solution. In my experience as a Health Coach people who drink lots of caffeinated beverages as well as “sugar” junkies tend to be hit the hardest. This is because the body, especially the brain has got used to having “instant energy” in the form of caffeine and sugar to tap into. However given time the body can adjust and start to tap into our fat stores, after all that is how we have evolved as a species.

During our evolution we wouldn’t have had food available all day every day like we do now and so the body evolved to store any excess carbohydrates that we ate as fat, which in turn would give us energy in times were there wasn’t much food to eat.

Drinking plenty of water with a small pinch of Hymalayan Crytal Salt will help to speed up the process of detoxification. As will adding the juice of fresh lemons and fresh ginger to your water. Lemon is a natural detoxifying agent packed with vitamins. Drinking lemon water regularly will help to cleanse the bowel helping to prevent constipation and diarrhea. It can also dissolve uric acid build up and other poisons in the liver speeding the body’s ability to detoxify itself. This is the reason why I start each day with 2 pints of water and a whole fresh lemon squeezed into it.

 

My training session for day one consisted mainly of compound exercises with dumbbells which felt a little heavier than normal which affect the reps I was shooting for but I have no doubt that my strength will be back to where it normally is very soon.

 

My nutrition for day one was spot on and I haven’t been tempted to drink any cappuccino’s. I even went to the local supermarket café and had some water. The Force is Strong in this Jedi 😉

 

 

Here’s my food for Day One:

Breakfast:

  • 2 pints of water with one whole lemon squeezed into them

  • 3 litres of water with a small Hymalayan Crystal Salt on top of the 2 pints I had first thing.
  • 3 x lemon & ginger tea
  • 4 x tulsi tea between 2pm and bed

 

(At 78kg I should be drinking 3.4 litres of water per day.)

Health Benefits Of Salt

People like to add it to their food for “taste”. Doctors tell you to reduce your salt intake due to it’s like to high blood pressure.

 

Salt has gotten a bad rap over the years but without it we will die. Every cell in our body is like a small ocean filled with salty water. But too much of it or the wrong type can be problematic. Research has shown that salt is linked to strokes, calcium deficiency and osteoporosis, fluid retention, weight gain, stomach ulcers and stomach cancer.

 

However all the research done linking salt to the above canditions has been done using refined, processed and chemically altered table salt or refined sea salt.

 

Not All Salt Is Created Equal

Table salt is created by taking natural salt, often the residue from oil mining and cooking it at 1200 degrees fahrenheit. At this temperature 80 of the 84 minerals and natural elements vital to health are lost.

 

After cooking the salt is often filled with toxic amounts of chemicals including aluminum derivatives that have been linked to Alzheimers disease. Natural salt is not usually white and so it is bleached, further adding to the toxicity of it. Many processed table salts contain anti-caking agents, toxic amounts of potassium iodide and monosodium glutamate or MSG which is not without its own side effects which I cover in detail the EAT Smart Diet Solution.

 

Due to the toxic nature of processed table salt it often causes a rapid rise in blood pressure as the body tries to keep the toxins away from the heart. Many chronic illnesses such as diabetes and obesity, as well as gout can be worsened by excessive table talt intake.

 

Because of all that, many people belive that sea salt is a healthier alternative to table salt. It used to be, but that is no longer the EAT Smart Diet pollutioncase. Our oceans are being used as toxic dumping grounds with over 180 million tons of toxic waste including mercury which is linked to , PCB’s and dioxins are being dumped into the worlds oceans, rivers and lakes each year!

Banana Omelette

In this episode, Evie and Marc rustle up Marc’s favorite breakfast recipe: The Banana Omelette

For the banana omelette you will need:

 

Ingredients:

3 x  eggs

1 x banana

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Coconut Oil

Peanut buter or other EAT Smart Compliant filling.

 

Method:

Add teaspoon of coconut oil to omelette pan. Turn on heat to a low setting.

Add eggs, cinnamon and banana to a mixing bowl or glass jug.

Blitz ingredients together.

Pour into pan once oil has melted.

Leave for 5 minutes until the top starts to bubble.

Flip.

Turn off the heat but leave the pan on the ring.

Add filling.

Serve.

Healing Crisis

The human body is a remarkable thing. It has the ability to heal itself if given the right ingredients. Trouble is when most people get ill they turn to modern medication. However this isn’t as sensible as one might think when you look a little deeper.

Most modern medications don’t actually cure your illness and instead focus on suppressing the symptoms that we experience. This is actually more damaging to the body as the real cause of the illness goes untreated which causes a build up of illness in later life.

Reducing Your Toxic Burden

Every day our bodies are exposed to toxins in one form or another. They’re present in the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. We live in a tooxic world and there’s not a place on the planet where we can go to escape them. In fact scientists have discovered man made toxins poluting the lakes in the most remote parts of the world, so remote that they’re only accessable by helicopter. Toxins even potute the antartic ice and scientists have to dig down tens of metres to get to pack ice that hasn’t been contaminated by man.

Normally our body’s immune system can detoxify and eliminate most of the toxins that we are bombared with on a daly basis. However if we are eating a diet high in foods treated with chemical pesticides or we are not getting adequate vitamins and minerals the body’s ability to detoxify and eliminate these poisons is reduced.

When that happens toxins begin to accumulate in our tissues and cells. When this happens our body begins to degenerate as our detoxification organs begin to suffer. Then as you begin to accumulate more toxins, more problems or symtoms of illness begin to arise. These symptoms can manifest themselves in many ways and include:

Now we cannot fully prevent our body coming into contact with enviromental toxins, after all there isn’t a single place left on Earth that hasn’t in some way been contaminated by modern mans toxic assault on our planet but we can reduce them.

One of the ways we can do this is by chosing to eat organic foods from local suppliers. This way we limit the impact of vehicle emissions due to the fact the produce doesn’t have to travel as far from farm to plate.

We can also chose to only eat season fruits and vegetables. Again this takes away the transportation polutation but it also reduces our exposure to chemicals sprayed on the foods to prevent the foods rotting or being attacked by rodents during transportation.

By chosing to eat local produce not only do we reduce the toxic onslaught on the planet but we also reduce our toxic exposure all while helping the local ecomomy.
